Watercolor Class Cards

This past Thursday I invited a good friend of mine to teach a watercoloring class for my customers.  Watercoloring is something that has always been challenging for me and she just has an eye and gift for it.

She taught us techniques using th the aqua painter, blender pens, watercolor pencils, and spritzer.  It was a lot of fun and VERY helpful!

For my first card today she taught us using the wax paper technique.

My card starts with Basic Black cardstock.  The image comes from the Scenic Sayings Stamp Set and was heat embossed using Versamark ink, black embossing powder (retired), and a heat tool.  On that I created the watercolor effect using Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point ink, a spritzer, and watercolor paper.

Once the watercolor paper was dry, I mounted it on Basic Black cardstock and then on Daffodil Delight cardstock.

I then used the Botanical Builder Framelits and cut out two smaller leaves, one in Tempting Turquoise and one in Emerald Envy, and one larger leaf in Daffodil Delight cardstock.  I used a sponge to stamp the edges of the leaves to darken them a bit using Pacific Point ink (on the Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy leaves) and Emerald Envy ink (on the Daffodil Delight leaf).

Here’s a look at the second card we made using Rose Red cardstock and ink, Old Olive cardstock and ink, and Archival Gray ink.  This card was colored using a Blender Pen.  The stamps used were Oh So Succulent and Birthday Blooms stamp sets.

The third card we made used Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy cardstock.  It uses Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, and Garden Green inks.  The flower was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed using white embossing powder.  It uses my favorite sentiment – “Just a Note”- from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set and gold metallic ribbon (Sale-a-bration item).  The flower comes from a retired stamp set.

Enjoy!

  1. I need in on a watercolor class! I had to search waxed paper watercoloring–hadn’t heard of that one but your card is beautiful. Love them all and can’t wait to see what else you do with your newfound skills!
