Watercolor Class Cards

This past Thursday I invited a good friend of mine to teach a watercoloring class for my customers.  Watercoloring is something that has always been challenging for me and she just has an eye and gift for it.

She taught us techniques using th the aqua painter, blender pens, watercolor pencils, and spritzer.  It was a lot of fun and VERY helpful!

For my first card today she taught us using the wax paper technique.

My card starts with Basic Black cardstock.  The image comes from the Scenic Sayings Stamp Set and was heat embossed using Versamark ink, black embossing powder (retired), and a heat tool.  On that I created the watercolor effect using Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point ink, a spritzer, and watercolor paper.

Once the watercolor paper was dry, I mounted it on Basic Black cardstock and then on Daffodil Delight cardstock.

I then used the Botanical Builder Framelits and cut out two smaller leaves, one in Tempting Turquoise and one in Emerald Envy, and one larger leaf in Daffodil Delight cardstock.  I used a sponge to stamp the edges of the leaves to darken them a bit using Pacific Point ink (on the Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy leaves) and Emerald Envy ink (on the Daffodil Delight leaf).

Here’s a look at the second card we made using Rose Red cardstock and ink, Old Olive cardstock and ink, and Archival Gray ink.  This card was colored using a Blender Pen.  The stamps used were Oh So Succulent and Birthday Blooms stamp sets.

The third card we made used Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy cardstock.  It uses Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, and Garden Green inks.  The flower was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed using white embossing powder.  It uses my favorite sentiment – “Just a Note”- from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set and gold metallic ribbon (Sale-a-bration item).  The flower comes from a retired stamp set.

Enjoy!

Tasty Trucks – Thanks

My card today is a bright and cheerful thank you card using the Tasty Trucks stamp set from the Sale-a-bration catalog.

My card starts off with Thick Whisper White cardstock.  If you use Whisper White as a base to your cards a lot, you definitely need the Thick Whisper White cardstock.  It is more durable and can stand up much better than the regular one.

I layered the Whisper White first with Bermuda Bay, then Calypso Coral, and lastly Melon Mambo cardstock, each one a half inch smaller than the previous.

I next stamped the sentiment in the bottom right corner in Melon Mambo ink, as well as the banners behind the truck.

tasty-trucks-stamp-it-up-with-jaimie-stampin-up

I stamped the Tasty Truck image in Archival Black ink (oil-based, so water doesn’t make it smear).  Then I used the amazing Watercolor Pencils (see below for status) to color it in.  I used Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Rich Razzleberry, and Early Espresso.  I then went over the coloring using a Blender Pen to get a more consistent look.  I fussy cut it out and adhered it over the cardstock.

Enjoy!

Watercolor Thank You Card

The other day I was feeling like I wanted to try something different.  And I didn’t necessarily have a plan.

I just knew how I wanted it to end up looking.

So I’m sure there’s a different, maybe even easier way, to get this look, but I’ll sort of walk you through how I did it.

I started with Night of Navy cardstock which I layered with Island Indigo and then some Watercolor Paper.

watercolor-stamp-it-up-with-jaimie

Now for the watercoloring:  I inked up the “swirl” from the Sealed with Love Stamp Set and stamped it (from the top) in Island Indigo, Dapper Denim, and Night of Navy.  They didn’t really stamp “strong” (maybe because watercolor paper is so thick) so I stamped each color twice.

I then took my Aquapainter, squeezed it to hard to get the tip wet, and sort of flicked the end to get the water to splatter.  I did this a lot.  Once the paper was really wet I sort of blew air on the puddles of water to get them to stream across the paper.

The Island Indigo and Dapper Denim must not have had as much ink on them as they didn’t stream as much.  (Now, at this point if I had re-inkers I would’ve just used them, but alas, I don’t.)  So what I did was brush the Aquapainter across the top of the ink pad a few times and then squeezed it to get a pool of water at the tip.  I then touched the paper to get the ink to drip out and again blew air on it to make it flow.

Like I said, there’s probably a much easier way to go about getting this effect.  Feel free to comment below and share!

watercolor-stamp-it-up-with-jaimie-stampin-up

Now after working hard to get my watercolor effect I didn’t want to just cover it up, so I chose a thin sentiment.  I used the Banners for You Bundle for my sentiment.  I stamped the Thank You in Versamark and sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder and heat embossed it.

I’ve used this bundle a few times but have yet to use the banner framelit.  I thought this banner was cool because it leaves a negative banner.

So I cut out a Dapper Denim negative and Watercolor Paper negative which I offset from one another and adhered the sentiment using Dimensionals.

Enjoy!

NEW Sale-a-bration – Tasty Trucks

This week’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop is a sketch challenge.

14088475_10210533701207078_5690154385464549913_n

For the layout, I decided to flip the sketch on its side.  I used Sweet Sugarplum cardstock as my base and layered it with some Watercolor Paper.  On the top of the Watercolor Paper, I cut a strip of the Falling in Love DSP.

tasty-trucks-stamp-it-up-with-jaimie

Next I stamped the food truck from the Tasty Trucks stamp set in Archival Black Ink and watercolored it in using an aqua painter and the inks Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride, and Sahara Sand.  I stamped the sentiment in the bottom right hand corner in Sweet Sugarplum.

Lastly I cut out a variety of sized circles using the Layering Circles Framelits (Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum, and Soft Sky) and stamped in the same color the banner from the Tasty Treats Stamp Set (available for order January 4, 2017).  Enjoy!

Happy Home Watercolor

If you’re visiting my blog from Amy’s – Welcome!  I’m so glad you swung by for a visit!

I am playing along with the Global Design Project challenge today which is all about nature!

GDP031

For today’s card I used the Happy Home Bundle (gotta love bundles).  I started with my base of Wild Wasabi cardstock.  The sentiment comes from the Happy Home bundle and was stamped in Watermelon Wonder.

Happy Home - Stamp It Up With Jaimie

I punched a square from the Wild Wasabi using the Square Framlits so the image on the inside would show through the front.  The window comes from the Hearth & Home Thinlits which is included in the bundle!

Happy Home - Stamp It Up With Jaimie - Stampin Up

On the inside I used some watercolor paper and stamped the tree image from the Happy Home Stamp Set.  The sky was Pool Party, the tree was Watermelon Wonder, and the grass was Cucumber Crush.

Enjoy!

Just For You – Watercoloring

I have wanted to try this technique for a while now and finally got to play around with it yesterday.  Isn’t this a really cool effect?

I started off with a background of Rich Razzleberry and then layered it with watercolor paper.  To get the effect of the sentiment, Just For You, from the Botanicals For You Sale-a-bration stamp set, you heat emboss it in white first.  That way when you watercolor over it, the embossing resists the ink.

Just For You - Stamp It Up With Jaimie - Stampin Up

Then I took Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo, and Old Olive and watercolored over the sentiment and paper.  Lastly, I used the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set in Rich Razzleberry (stamped off first) to add some dots.

I finished it off with a few Old Olive sequins and Baker’s Twine.

Enjoy!
